Coming soon: Goldade’s

Richard Goldade spent five years at the Bison Co-op in New Rockford
before delving into the meat processing plant at the Esmond Locker.
And everything went well for Goldade and his working companion JoAn
Jacobs there - almost too well. They literally outgrew their building
and now find themselves on the verge of opening a new business on
College Drive in Devils next Monday in the old Skyberg’s Meat building.
After spending 9 years in Esmond, Goldade and Jacobs, with some help
from the Devils Lake Growth Fund, will open ‘Goldade’s, a business
Denise Hendrickson says is badly needed.
"It’s something we needed and will surely appreciate," she smiles.
Goldade said his business in his tiny Esmond facility had grown so
much, he couldn’t keep up with processing demands. He literally had a
waiting line of customers, and only had room for himself and Jacobs.
His capacity in Esmond involved about 11 sides of beef, and now in his
new Devils Lake location he can handle up to 45 in two different
coolers.
The business excels in sausage, summer sausage, pepper sticks, head
cheese, liver sausage, all of which is made at the location.
"We’re excited," Goldade said of his anticipated opening next week.
"It’s a big change for us and we’re hoping it all goes well. We’d
really like to thank Forward Devils Lake and the Growth Fund for this
opportunity."
Goldade said he could conceivably start with 7 or 8 employees, and then
will "see what happens." In previous appearances at the Holiday Mall
trade and arts and crafts shows in Devils Lake, Goldade and his
sausages were incredibly popular.
They are doing some butchering on location right now, but still have
some paper work and other things to tidy up before opening next week.
The Devils Lake Growth Fund is providing lease payments for two years
and a $35,000 capital loan.
